well this is an old tale of me in Koh Chang earlier this year, I know I moan a lot but it was actually quite nice, in fact I might go back there oneday

now being a bit smart, i got here and asked at the restaurant for 1000 baht hotels. unfortunately the hotel they recommended which i'm now staying at had their sign down, erm so we foked up a little bit and went a bit further, now you really do not want to stay in 350 baht bungalows, believe me, i shall post some pics of this dog kennel when i get back tomorrow, it's awful....

well i took a few hundred pics, mainly of my car, but a few others as well.

well i suppose i should start from the beginning, it's about a 3 hour drive from here down pretty good roads, now the important bit is the ferry in trat, it isn't actually in trat, its about 20 km away, of course that didn't fool us cos we know everything here isn't where its supposed to be.

the ferry is actually pretty good, it sells beer and they don't charge for the car, its a miserly 30 baht per person per way, can't get fairer than that.

yep a nice modern day ferry made of metal.

anyway when you land at koh chang you can go left or right, right is actually the way you want to go unless you want to see fishing villages, now i have to admit the fishing villages were quite nice but we decided to return and then go right, yes i know i could have looked at a map but hell who cares? now as i mentioned earlier the roads are pretty awesome, very few warning signs and 180 degree bends on 50 degree hills, most of the time you're driving about 40 km, i think i got up to 120 km on one stretch of road but that was pretty dangerous, also if you have an underpowered petrol engine car, don't expect to make it up some of these hills unless you have a reasonable speed up b4 you start going up it, i saw several cars parked on these hills because they could go no further....

my first mistake...

me being smart decided to ask at a restaurant for a 1,000 baht per night hotel, ermm well i think i posted this earlier, now if you see this place..

yeah quaint ain't it?.. well it ain't, its foking awful, 350 baht per nite and has this...

i mean how foking awful..... green tiles of all foking things with a red bog brush, well i only used it to piss in obviously, i'm not into squatting, i'm a farang for god's sake, obviously it was a cold water shower, i worked my way up with the water to just under my knackers and decided i was clean enough, hell i would be in the sea in the morning and then to a nice hotel, sod the expense. here's a pic of one of the windows and the electrics for the room, yes i know i should call it a shack....

i did wonder wot the tissue was for, then i realised the mossie screen was the wrong size, still i suppose some ppl wanting to experience how real thais live would probably have enjoyed this...

THE GRAND LAGUNA

now obviously this place is classy, way too classy for most of you lot in fact, if you ain't a guest you have to pay to get in, 100 baht per person, now me being smart and that negotiated it down to 100 baht and 4 cigarettes, you also get a great big VIP badge to wear, my son loved it, anyway we had a wander round and found the bar, with the entrance fee you get a free snack or something but i wanted beer and me son wanted ice-cream, now the staff here are actually trained to be helpful and actually know their job, yes quite a rarity in this country, anyway they got these pushbikes you can use, yep and me son wanted one to ride round on, so over comes the waitress and i ask how much to rent, she then tells us they are free, all we need to do is goto the reception and hand over some id and off he can go, my son goes fok that, i ain't walking all the way back there, the lovely young lady said,"dont worry, i shall get them to bring you a bicycle, now that is service.

well it turns out he weren't gonna let me in for less than 200 baht, now i have been to yosemite and seen proper waterfalls, i'm not going to pay 200 baht to see some tiny little poxy waterfalls, so i left the decision up to my son, i asked my son wot he wanted to do, he goes sod it, that man is trying to steal your money, let's go somewhere else, this was all in thai so i'm sure that thai park official feels proud of himself when a thai kid of 12 says he's trying to steal my money and we both walked out, so we didn't see no poxy waterfall that probably didn't have any water anyway....

here is a picture of what we shall refer to as backpackers shacks on the beach, now these are rickety wood shacks that you wouldn't have room to swing a cat in, i believe these are about 500 baht per night, now when you reckon you could knock one of these up in a day for a few thousand baht, you can see that these guys are raking the dosh in, further down the beach they had some real nice luxurious ones, aircon etc, obviously i hung around there so ppl thought i was staying at a high end place, little did they know that when i pointed at where i stayed it was actually behind those lovely bungalows on the beach and across the road at the hotel.

well i suppose it's a bit better than seeing floating turds, and i really doubt that these ppl bleach their toilets, and i think crabs and prawns like to eat turds, well turds and dead bodies...

now the next pic is of a newly built house, he must own a few of the poxy souvenir shops to afford this, its actually quite nice and tasteful.

and next we have a building site using traditional materials like pilings and concrete next to a nice thai traditional sea food restaurant. i mean i have to say i was expecting seasoned timber and that sort of stuff from this fishing village, to say it was a disappointment would be an understatement.
